“MY BABIE DON’T LOVE ME”

Dux and Julie DeGiovanni worked behind the counter at Sears, Roebuck & Co. in Chester,
Pennsylvania. The girls had dreams of things you don’t see every day, and dreams of things you just
can’t buy at Sears, Roebuck & Co. From their mid-teens onward, they would get together in their spare
time and sing. Mom and Dad had a dry cleaning shop; they hoped the girls would come to their senses
and join the family business.
..
In the mid ’50s, the Four Aces were the hometown heroes, but when Decca Record scouts heard the
Aces and took the boys off to stardom, the Ukrainian Club–which the foursome had been using as their
base of operations–needed a new attraction. Dux (b. Jan. 21, 1933) and Julie (b. Mar. 18, 1931)
approached the club, and much to their surprise, they were offered a slot there. Their name went up in
lights, and Chester, PA had a new group to cheer about. Representatives from Epic Records came
sniffing about in search of another Four Aces-type grouping, and decided to give the gals from Sears,
Roebuck & Co. a chance.

“(My Baby Don’t Love Me ) No More” made the Chester girls big stuff for a while. The song–with
hiccups and all–went Top 10 nationally. But nothing the Pennsylvania kids ever tried for Okeh,
Sunbeam, Columbia, Capitol, or United Artists Records even again went Top 40. Hopefully, “No More”
brought the girls some of those dreams money can’t buy. And hopefully, Dux and Julie got to taste some
of that good money, because after “No More,” there was no more.
