It should’ve happened… multiple hits, a massive career, world recognition and all the rest.

Susaye Greene

Whatever became of… The last official member

to join the Motown supergroup the Supremes,

Susaye Greene?

It’s no fabrication but it’s foggy to phantom the

very last recordings with the name Supremes

on the label appeared 40 years ago, 1977. Susaye

joined the fading unit in the spring of 1976, replacing replacement Cindy Birdsong. At this point the group

was comprised of Scherrie Payne and original Supreme Mary Wilson.

Susaye had a musical past. She sang with Ray Charles Rayettes and Stevie Wonder’s Wonderlove. She sang

lead as a guest vocalist on New Births it ”Until It’s Time for You to Go.” With Stevie Wonder she composed

“I Can’t Help It” for Michael Jackson.

In that final year of the Supremes existence she appeared on their last two albums High Energy and Mary,

Scherrie & Susaye and their last top 40 charting.

Susaye did record a duet album with fellow former Supreme Scherrie Payne, Partners. She did record

some forgettable’s for Ian Levine’s Motorcity label and finally in 2002 a first solo album No Fear Here

released, followed in 2005, Brave New Shoes.

In 2013 she appeared as herself in the flick 20 Feet from Stardom.
