EDDIE BARCLAY

“THE BANDIT (O’CANGACEIRO)”

(Alfredo·Ricardo de Nascimento)

Tico 249

No.18     July 16, 1955

.

.

Surprise, surprise!  Not 10 months after Percy Faith (#25,1954}, the Johnston Brothers (#26,1954},

and Tex Ritter (#30, 1954) raided the charts with their versions of this tune from a Mexican flick

called O’Cangaceiro (1954), a young Parisian named Eddie Barclay was back like a bandit to snatch

 yet some more gold dust.

.

Eddie (b. Jan. 26, 1921, Paris) was schooled at the Ecole Massillon in Paris.  He was a conductor,

composer, and record producer, and he eventually became the president of the French record

label Compagnie Phonographique Francaise.
