Carolyn Mas
It was in the late 70s when
Carolyn Mas
broke out
of the Greenwich Village music scene that included
Steve Forbert and Willie Nile. Rapidly she had three
albums issued on Mercury Records.
Billboard
mag
in 1980 in a concert review referred Mas as “the rock
world’s best kept secret.” And so she–largely–remains
to this day…
Germany has embraced “the female Bruce Springstein” beginning in1980 and she’s had several albums
issued outside of the United States.
For some years Carolyn lived out her days crammed in one hotel room working days cleaning bathrooms
and in a boardinghouse, waitressing, working at a health and nutrition store.
January 26, 1986 Carolyn’s room was broken into, and while asleep she was stabbed nine times; her throat
was slit and prized Telecaster guitar was taken.
It should’ve happened… it’s not too late,
give a listen
to the fantastic “Stillsane,” her debuted single that
should’ve happened in 1977.
Check out her website for her-story, yet-to-be complete.
