The Jo di mars

BEATLE INFLUENCES  JO DI MARS

No one gets outta here without having an influence

on others. Such even the case with John Paul Ringo

& George… and pete and Stu

The Jo di mars were formed in summer of 1955.  For

three years they worked it hard…and released stuff

that very few got the chance to hear…  though Beatle members heard, liked and covered their tune

“Clarabella” The group was comprised of Joey Ambrose on sax, Dick Richards, vocals and drums and

Marshall (Little) Ly tle on string bass.

They were original members of Bill Haley’s hot shot group… the Comets… and they were hot, bothered

and bugged… See Haley had allowed the remaining Comets…Johnny Grand E and Billy Williamson…full

partnership in the moneys.

Jo…Dick…Mar  shall, that’s JO DI MAR wanted likewise…the moneys and felt they had it coming.

In an interview I had with John Haley, Bill’s son John said that his dad never learned of the rejection by

management to the seemingly reseanable request…for equal moneys that is…on till it was too late.  And

this bad management decision…would later extract it’s toll…on possible future successes for Haley…and

his remaining Comets.

Capitol records quickly said  yeah, yeah, yeah and the three some Jo, di and mar…plus two were in the

studio, before Haley even knew what hit.

The first 45 was “Now Dig This”–utilized later as the monikor for the highly successful British rock’n’roll

magazine. Within months they were signed up and performing in Las Vegas showrooms–the first

rock’n’roll unit to ever get the offer. The fifth of the six singles for Capitol was “Carabella” and Paul

McCartney took a love on it.

Strangely and with justice granted in 2006 when Haley’s Comets set out… on there world tour

the only original Comets alive and active…from the hot ’50s… were JO…DI…and Mar.

The three were back home in the fold…with equal moneys granted.
