Alicia is not saying how old she is (shhh! July 15, 1953), though she does freely admit to being born and
raised in Lawndale, North Carolina. After working in a bank and pushing goods at Sears, Roebuck,
Bridges began her singing career in Zachary Ridge, a heavy rock band that played accompaniment for
strippers in burlesque houses. Sounds interesting…yes.

The disco staple “I Love the Nightlife” was not Alicia’s first or last recording, but it certainly looked like
it. “Nightlife” was a Grammy nominee for “Best Song of the Year.” Her follow-up, “Body Heat” (#86,
1979), was much-much less successful.

Further recordings were issued by A.V.I. and Second Wave to nary a smidgen of notice, let alone success.
Reportedly a second album was issued by Polydor, called Play It As It Lays; pressings were so few in
number that 30+ years have passed with this writer spotting nary a copy.

“Since I turned to guitar, one Sunday, music has been the most important thing in my life,” Alicia told
Bret Primack of Grooves. “There are people I love and care about, but music is the moving force … I live
it, and I am dedicated to it.”
