By the time they met in 1968, Floridians Lenny LeBlanc (b. June 17, 1951, Leominister, MA) and Pete Carr

(b. Apr. 22, 1950, Daytona Beach, FL) were both accomplished musicians.  Carr had been a member of

Hourglass with Paul Hornsby and Duane and Gregg Allman.  When the Glass shattered, Carr (guitar,

bass) and LeBlanc (guitar) trekked to Cincinnati in search of session work.  Pete subsequendy moved to

Muscle Shoals, Alabama, where he became a guitarist with the Muscle Shoals Sound Rhythm Section; he

wound up producing and performing on the SAILCAT sessions that resulted in “Motorcycle Mama.”

Lenny likewise relocated to Muscle Shoals following the disbanding of his recording act, Whalefeathers.

By 1976, each musician had solo albums issued by Big Tree, but listener response was less than enthusias

tic.  The following year, the old friends joined forces for their lone Top 40 hit.  Midnight Light produced

three back-to-back charting singles:  “Something About You” (#48, 1977), “Failing,” and “Midnight Light”

(#92, 1978).  However, all was not well.  The duo had a falling out.  In support of their hits, the LeBlanc-

Carr Band  toured, but minus Pete Carr.  No follow-up LP was ever issued.

Lenny LeBlanc placed two solo singles on Billboard’s Hot 100–“Hound Dog Man (Play It Again)” (#58,

1977) and “Somebody Send My Baby Home” (#55, 1981)–and has worked recording sessions for Dobie

Gray, DELBERT McCLINTON, Roy Orbison, and the mysterious Swamp Dogg.  In 1979, Pete and two

former members of the LeBlanc-Carr Band, Thorn Flora and Steve Nathan, recorded as Baatz for

Capricorn Records.  Word in the ’90s was that Lenny has turned to performing and session work for

Christian acts.  Carr remained incredibly busy as a studio musician, playing on albums by JIM CAPALDI,

Kim Carnes, Joe Cocker, Art Garfunkel, Millie Jackson, Paul Kossoff, Wilson Pickett, Johnny Rivers, Boz

Scaggs, Bob Seger, Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, Rod Stewart, and TRAVIS WAMMACK, among others.
